Looking to relocate with my girlfriend to a new city and actively recruiting for a new role. But current employer has offered a long overdue promotion (part of the reason I am looking to leave). Official role and responsibilities will change but not anything I havenāt already been doing for the past 3+ years, and raise is TBD. Iām looking to land a job offer within the next two months. Will recruiters and hiring managers judge me if I accept this promotion and show it on my resume? Can accepting this promotion hurt my chances of switching companies? Thank you! (Posting for a friend. His company is too identifiable. :/)
Accept it, and then if you get a new opportunity elsewhere, leave. I've seen someone leave 2 months after promo. You don't owe your corporate employer anything. Do you know how many people had job offers or internship offers that were pulled when covid hit? Did those corporations ever think twice about the heartache and financial pain they caused those people? Take their promo and VWYF (vote with your feet, i.e, leave the company) when the time is right.
This person is spot on . My former company went on and on about how we are family, but when COVID hit literally didnāt tell the new intern who stood outside our locked empty office calling for an hour on her first day. When they told her they were withdrawing the internship they forgot to take her off the email list and they send a company wide email about how they were āin it together and proud to be empatheticā she called them out in the same email chain, and the ceo in slack said āI guess sheās just mad she has to find another jobā followed by a troll face emoji The ceo was 40+ and doing this
Holyā¦shit
I m in similar boat. L6 sde promo long due (more than 2 years). It will mostly go through this quarter. But i already have 3 offers. Looking to leave. Even after promo, there is no benefit
Get the promotion and leave. Put on resume that your new title was from at least 6 months back
Promo is for previous work, not future work, youāve earned it
Thank you everyone. I have screenshot your comments and sent to my friend. He is going to go with the promotion and reorg. You guys are awesome!
Iāve seen many who got promoted and left in a month or two, youāll be fine.
And have that on the resume as your title for the entire duration (i.e do not explicitly state your various titles by the time duration) and get another bump in either title or money at the new place.
