Hi all Does anyone know what percentage of interns get return offers for Full Time after an internship at Shopify? I am in the position of having to turn down another offer at Microsoft in hopes that Shopify will extend a return offer at the end of my internship. Don't want to do that if it's risky. Thanks!
FYI you can convert your msft us offer to a Vancouver offer during the pandemic, and wfh in Canada. Same usd stock, lower based, roughly the same signing bonus, working for the same US team.
But then eventually I'd have to move to either Vancouver or Seattle, right? Aim of the game for me is to stay in Montreal
Yes, I believe you'd be required to relocate to Vancouver eventually unless you work out a deal with your manager.
If you prefer Shopify to Microsoft, I think you should decline the Microsoft offer, and if Shopify doesn't work out, reapply for Microsoft. Given coronavirus, I think they will understand if you say "my plans changed". Companies are always thirstier after you tell them no. Obviously if you prefer Microsoft, just take their offer.
I think at one point we’ve had a 95% retention rate of interns to full time :). I wouldn’t worry too much about not getting a full time offer after your internship, at the most they might make you do 8 months of internship to make sure you are qualified. I’ve only heard of 2 situations where someone wasn’t given a return offer.
When I was interning there, i think we had 90% retention rate of interns to FT, and that was last year I wouldn’t be worried as long as you GSD
Just bring it up with your lead. There are only a few weeks left in your internship, and we are all having the conversations anyways. It’s probably pretty timely - and I would expect your lead to reach out today or next week.
Talk to your lead. If they feel you are high performing, you should get an offer. You may not have a lot of experience with these convos as an intern (I'm assuming, I don't know), but there perfectly normally. You should feel comfortable talking to your lead about your impact and career.
Accept both and renege
What did u decide? I'm also deciding between msft and shop
Just ping the HR Rep explain your situation and why you want to work at Shopify and see if they can hustle for you.
I was upfront with recruiter about it - he mentioned that I should mention to my manager what my intentions are but not much else. He said manager should be willing to give me an early offer if I have other deadlines, unfortunately my due to my university regulations, Microsoft offer expires two weeks into my shopify internship.
Okay than do that and see what happens. You can also accept MSFT and then turn it down if Shopify gives you an offer. You'll burn that bridge but does it really matter?
