Hows WLB at Shopify in Toronto? Whats the interview process like and how difficult is it? Any interesting projects going on? I heard folks need a referral to get the process rolling, is that true? 5 YOE TC 130K #toronto #shopify
Friend of mine interviewed there (no referral). He told comp was around 140k and free food.
What “level” is he at / YOE? Not sure what Shopify level structure is.
He's senior. ~8yoe
I worked in Shopify Toronto as an intern and will be re-joining soon full-time. Offices are really cool and they're expanding like crazy in Toronto. New office opened up last year and they're opening a massive one in The Well building nearby. Not sure how the interview process is full-time. If it's any similar to intern interviews, the questions are less leetcode styled and more about high-level system design. They also care a lot about personality and will have you start with an hour-long "Life Story" interview. From my experience referrals don't help much there. I referred dozens of qualified potential interns and only two of them even got an interview. YMMV for full-time positions. WLB is really good. Office is practically empty until 9:00am and again by 5:30pm. The new office has in-house chefs and free breakfast/lunch everyday. Lots of social activities. Overall, it's a great experience and I'm happy to be going back.
Thanks a lot for the detailed response. What’s TC like? I heard it’s quite good, though another poster said someone he knew got 140K and he has 8 YOE. I’m looking for a sizeable bump, to at least 150/160. Is that possible at Shopify for someone with 5YOE?
TC might be able to get that high but not base salary. My TC is 320k but my base is 101k. It's not all about the money with Shopify employees, and the interview staff looks for the outlook. You can work on anything you want and if you have a great idea there's room to create a project or entire team from it. You're not limited by how much you can grow or not grow. The benefits are great, the office culture is really relaxed but you're still able to get work done if you need to be in the zone. Free food from in house culinary team and flexible work hours.
Come to Deliverr, no chefs but you can comfort yourself with your substantially higher salary.
