Google stock is embarrassing and they have audacity to down level and lowball engineers. TC:200K
Apple only pays well because of stock appreciation, their offer numbers aren't that great Same goes for Amazon
Other way around, Apple pays well because of refreshers. Amazon pays internal employees poorly but offers more for external hires. At this point I’ve seen more 400k+ Sr eng offers from Amazon than G in the Bay Area (Seattle has lower comp bands so it’s rarer to see there)
Why don’t you consider good things about google?. Like pip is not very common. The culture is good. All my friends have amazing WLB, and not to mention the stress free life they have. Also they absolutely love working there. I feel like FB for example pays really well. But my friends work 55+ hours a week. Sometimes less but average 55 hours. If you do the math, that’s extra 800 hours a year. Now compare that to the salary being offered. Is it paying more or less?. Same with Apple, few teams are great, few are not. In which case the pay is actually low if you end up putting extra hours every week.
Yeah but how many teams are out there? I am talking about what my friends at FB told me. And plenty of people on blind talk about it. Can’t call it a myth because you haven’t seen it right.
FB has an incentive structure set up that encourages you to have poor wlb. For example, bonus multipliers of 2-3x and higher refresher/promo if you get good ratings.
Yes. Even their initial offers are better in my experience. You also get the same mature company culture. Differences: Apple is obsessed with privacy so work has more hoops to go through. Perks are nowhere as good. Not all Apple teams are great. Variance is high.
Google still seems like the best thing you can have on your resume so 🤷♂️
If you’re out of school maybe
You didn’t graduate school?
If you knew anything about the engineer's day-to-day experience at either company you would know this is a stupid comparison
Did you recently get rejected from Google?
