I contributed to 2 notable open source projects, one from IBM and another from Microsoft, implemented AI/ML algorithms from research papers. Do orgs even care about this? How do I add this in resume, do I add a new section as open source contributions? Please help! Tc: 🥜 #jobs #resume #resumereview
yes you should. Add it under projects/pro bono work. just make sure to not add too much words, post a link perhaps. Elaborate when asked
Like a tiny description and link to pull request
yes, two line summary teaser and a link to the pr, sure. it’s a power play, you don’t want to write too much that nobody reads it but are enough to make them ask about it
If they're non-trivial contributions (i.e. not a typofix or a minor documentation update), and relevant to the roles you're interested in, I'd include it.
Add it under the job experience section
Step 1: Fork Linux kernel. Step 2: Make a pull request and ask Linus to review. Step 3: Get insulted and cussed at by Linus. Step 4: In your resume mention that you wrote code that turned Linus’s head. Step 5: … Step 6: Profit.
What were your contributions OP? If they were updating the README or adding comments to code, dont bother. If they made a material change in the projects DX or UX, then add those. That's the only stuff people want to hear about.
Cybrary, Implemented algorithm from a research paper, does that count?

PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
In my experience it depends on the company. Startups tend to value it more. Either put your github page on your resume or if you have space and the company/group is big on open source, list it under projects with github #stars if you’re a major contributor
