24yo New Grad (MS). My old car broke (not fixable). I know nothing about cars. Want to buy a tesla so it’s simple, reliable and has no issue like gas cars. I feel guilty buying a tesla due to following reasons: 1. Current economy and layoffs. 2. My friends are still trying to figure out their career and currently earning low. Feels odd to spend so much when my friends don’t. 3. My savings are low (40K stocks). 4. Don’t want to sell significant amount of stocks for down payment And overall feels like I might be doing the same mistake every 20s do (spending on a depreciating asset). But as I know nothing about cars and want reliability, I’m either getting a 50K tesla or going for a used car around 10K. There is no middle ground. If I spend anything more, I’d rather go all in tesla. TC: 190K
Good car. Thanks for paying me
Tesla repairs are expensive and your insurance will be really high as well. Not a car I would recommend so early in your life/career.
I heard usually there is no issues with tesla and even if there is, it’s covered with insurance right? But yeah, I’m also having second thoughts on spending so much early in my career!
All vehicles will have issues. Yes, Tesla are generally reliable but the more electronic parts you have the more there is to break. Call your insurance company to check rates before you decide.
Yes, 🙌
Yes what?
Yes to main question. Specifically Tesla Model 3 Highland.
YOLO.
I’m torn 😂. I see Highland video and feel like YOLO. As soon as I open Robinhood and see my stocks doing well.. I don’t wanna take my money out 🥲 But ig it’s a good type of problem to have, lol
Don't buy a Tesla, not because any of the reasons you mentioned, just because it's a bad car choice.
definitely can but 54k car going to eat into your pay check a little though
Buy a manual transmission sports car
If you're super passionate about EVs and the tech and absolutely love the drive experience and can't stop thinking about it - YES. If you're doing it to impress someone, show off, make a statement, use it as social currency - NO. If you want to build wealth, be financially secure, save for retirement, have FIRE aspirations - NO.
1. Yes, I kinda do like Teslas 2. No, I don’t care about impressing. I’m actually worried having a tesla at 24 might make me look like I’m either rich or spending all my paycheque on it. I’m neither, and don’t wanna be seen as any. 3. Yes yes YESS. For third point, how much do you recommend on spending? I don’t wanna spend much on buying a car, and definitely not fixing it all the time.
People on Blind act like you can't FIRE if you don't drive a beater car. It just depends on your lifestyle.
If I’m spending 25, I’d rather spend 25 more, to make sure my first 25K worth it!
