Went to "top50" state school, "top20" CS school, saw a few alumni with BS got in HFTs but I see their GPAs are 3.96-4.0. some of their profiles are not very impressive but they all noticeably have high gpas. My Bachelors Gpa is low (3.55) since I had a C- in a gender studies gen ed and never went to class. Have 3 different faang companies on my resume so I get callbacks from some HFTs. But I suspect the ivy league HMs don't like the Low gpa. In big tech I don't face any gpa discrimination. Do I need a high gpa MS at an ivy league to get more interviews and offers ? I interviewed at five ring, two sigma, renaissance, citadel, hrt. But usually rejected after the recruiter phone screen, and rarely ever reach onsite. Only had two sigma offer. Wonder if a high gpa in a prestigious MS degree will open more doors as i see a handful of people with them that are in HFTs. I'm past 2 yoe so I'm not sure if it's too late to make the transition from big tech. I know mostly new grads join hft as swe out of college, usually return interns or interns at other hft. I see no new grad joiners mostly join with <2 yoe somewhere else and rarely a large amount of yoe in something specialized or upper management. Thoughts? If you fail after phone screen it’s not your grades holding you back. Dig deeper.
I had one technical phone screen they rejected me on, don't need to dig deeper on that Even if you are a phone screen, there are numerous reasons HM won't take an onsite for you. Im talking only hft not Google
How was the 2 sigma offer
Take your GPA off your resume. Problem solved and it didn't cost $200k.
This. No one will care about info you don’t volunteer
They ask man. I don't include my GPA that's how I got interviews in first place recruiter in phone screen asks then I get reject.
I would go for 2 sigma then apply for more prestigious HFT firms from there.
I've seen this done by people but they still had high gpa. Companies like citadel and 2 sigma don't care as much about gpa but others still do. So me going to two sigma still doesn't solve the low gpa problem
It would give you an advantages over someone who doesn’t have HFT experience. I don’t think gpa is that significant for someone with 3+ yoe imo
Are you serious? 3.50 and 3 FAANG internships is more than enough lol. If you are getting past resume screens yet not going past technical phones then theres definitely another issue. Think about it from another angle
I'm not failing technical phone interviews, it's mostly recruiter calls after I send my transcript. I removed it from the post since people mistakenly assume that's an issue. I didnt move past one tech phone screen one time, I made 2 on-sites and the rest were ended after recruiter phone calls.
OP ignore the boomers here. 3.5 is the cutoff for citadel two sigma but i have legitimately never seen someone < 3.8 get the top hft firms. I have no clue how you even got a five rings recruiter call though @bloomberg 3 faang internships isn’t unique when you are competing against ivy+ 3.9 kids which whether you like it or not is much harder than lc. Both getting into ivy+ and getting a 3.9 in math or cs undergrad. Not to mention most people with that background have at the minimum a sophomore internship at a unicorn or at worst google already You’ll see some no name schools slip through but like op said they ALL have insane gpas still in that case
How did you get an interview at renaissance?

How did you get into 3 different FAANGs if you think any HM gives two shits about GPA on the resume of experienced candidates. Were they like internships?? 🤔
Since you’re applying for entry level roles they might care about GPA. But for experienced hires (5+ yrs) no one cares about GPA anymore.

I'm dead serious seeking advice. Aside from target TC line
