Should I get a tesla model 3 performance edition?
Hi all wondering if I should get a model 3 performance edition. 22 years old, TC: 190k (base 144k) The car with autopilot is ~65k. I don't have a FIRE goal , has been a dream car since college. I do know financially most people will say it's stupid but I don't have any debt looming over and with financing I'll still be able to save sufficiently (obviously in reduced quantity for a period). During Covid I've been staying with parents saving and investing (~70k in savings, not including my investment portfolio). From my position it seems really doable but I just want to make sure I'm not doing something entirely stupid.

I saw a post from someone recently that mentioned how many millions of dollars they'd have if they invested in Tesla instead of buying a Tesla. The point being - if you can defer gratification you'll likely reap greater rewards later on.

I’m 22 and in a similar situation to you and pretty much put my signing bonus into a Porsche, albeit slightly less than a Tesla. I tend to save as much as possible and personal finance/investing is a big interest of mine as well. I’ve wanted a Porsche since I was like 12 and would make the same choice over 10/10 times. I know how much I could’ve missed out on by saving/investing but for me I think it was worth it. The majority of people (maybe not on blind) would say save, but the majority of people also don’t have a $190k TC at 22
How much was the porche?
Why don’t you buy a model S for $69,420? You can fold the backseat, drop a mattress and go cross country with your amazing girl friends?

I got the Tesla Model 3 Performance about 6 months ago and absolutely loving it so far. Build quality isn’t great specially if you are used to Benz or a Beamer. But worth every penny when you are trying to smoke like 95% of the cars out on the street. IMO the new ones have ugly turbine wheels (I have the smoked ones that they stopped selling now) but you can always get some sick Vossen or something cheaper if you don’t like them. PS: People will always tell you about how you shouldn’t spend that much on a car but instead invest. Not a bad opinion but if you look at everything in the world like that then might as well stay homeless and save all that money “to invest” 😊.
Only buy it if you’re comfortable paying it in full in cash. Don’t go in debt for a car...
Wouldn’t recommend it. Maybe consider a short term lease or rent it for the weekend and use something else for work.
