Currently looking at 3 promising roles: 1. Customer Engineer at Microsoft Azure (senior/L63): Support-like role but tagged as “Engineering” and high scope and stability. 2. Customer Engineer at Google Cloud (L4): bit of a down level, sales engineer role. 3. Current role as TAM (L6). Don’t like it at Amazon and looking at dev list coming in for sure. Just want to GTFO. 4. Technical Sales role at Qumulo with decent equity. YOE : 7 TC: Ranging from $190k (startup) - $240k Help me decide please!
Curious if OP went to Qumulo and how it worked out. Qumulo is coming after me as well.
What dont you like as a TAM at AWS? Fyi customer engineer here is billable and now in same org as Solution Architects. How was gcp customer engineer interview, mind if i dm?
What I hate about the TAM role at AWS: It is unimaginative, the rest of the account team supporting a customer treats you like their b!tch. Management is myopic, does not like healthy discussion/disagreements, in fact they actively try to shut them down instead of engaging in any interesting debate in team meetings. Zero team building culture, ugly politics, and most importantly: kissing a$$ is highly encouraged and rewarded. Have an L7/Principal TAM in your org? Kiss their a$$ to get ahead, to the point where they drown out all other voices and ideas. Customer Engineer at Microsoft: Being in the same org as SAs is very promising! The job description of CE at Microsoft does not seem very pre-sales, but being aligned with SAs is exciting. Who is the VP of this org if you don’t mind letting me know? Customer Engineer at Google: This is a fully pre-sales role, also referred to as “Sales Engineer”. Please feel free to DM me on my interview experience.
