We posted an ad for a housekeeper. This women approached us. We interviewed. She seemed nice. Showed up for work on day 1. I pulled her background record. I found that she has criminal record with most recent one in 2003. These convictions were for things like theft, burglary, substance abuse and similar non violent crimes. When I asked her about those she acknowledged and guaranteed that she is a different person now. She served her time in jail and went to college to complete education. She has been struggling to get any job. She is broke and helpless now and that she really needs this job. She offered to get drug screened randomly. She also shared recommendation letters from her college. We are an Indian family who moved to USA just 1 year ago with small kids. If we hire her she will stay all day with my family while I'll be away in office. After listening to all her arguments I feel I've got into a emotional and ethical delima if I should hire her. If she is in deed a better person now, this might help her stay good. On the hand feel scared for my family's safety. Share your thoughts.
Give her a chance.
Work from home. Give her a baby! 🤰🏻
Ask her for references. Talk to people at her college, her professors for instance. A couple of calls could help you decide better. Get a couple of nest cams too for your home and a DIY security system. In general, having a cam is a good idea if you have housekeepers.
Now this is a good advice
I'd say, give her the benefit of the doubt and if your family or you starts seeing that something is off in the way she performs her duties, let her go. She went to college so I doubt she will stay forever cleaning houses. She just needs someone to give her a chance in the career she studied.
I would setup security cameras throughout the house and consider getting a safe to store any valuables. You could let her know that you're willing to give her a chance, but will be setting up cameras since you do not know her very well yet. If she gets upset about that and decides to leave, problem solved. If she's cool with it, then you've got surveillance to check in on her and the kids at any time.
I wouldn't pin the fact you're getting cameras on her past. I'd install cameras if I had a stranger home with my kids, whether or not they had a criminal history.
Give her a chance and fire her if she makes any mistakes
2003 was 16 years ago. How long must one be punished for their crimes?
Give her a chance.. 16 years since her last crime. If no one forgive mistakes then we all never gonna get a chance. no one is perfect in this life.
She was 21 at the time her last crime in 2003.
Why didn’t she tell about her background upfront or in the resume and waited for you to bring it up after background check? Did she think it would fall through the cracks and then she would be able to get away with it. If her conviction was in 2003 , what has she been doing since 15 years? I have too many questions so I wouldn’t risk it with my kids. I am sure the government has some plans/ programs for rehabilitation & she should have a job/ references to provide for the past 15 years and then you can move forward on your decision.
Give her a chance, please.... save a person, save a soul!
