Should I join an A.I startup and quit my full time job ?

Should I quit my comfortable full time job and join an A.I startup and get a salary cut in exchange of stock options ? And how much stock options should I ask for ?

Try to get on the board and just get the stock while working your current full time gig.

How do you do this

Anything less than 1% is a waste of your time. I’d say, join and learn how the sausage is made, if you can take the cuts and risks.

Every startup now markets itself as an AI startup. Regardless of whether they actually do AI or not.

They’re actually using an advanced computer vision model in a very interesting area/industry. I’m a product designer and I’m very passionate and familiar with ML/AI and it’s applications. But I’m very new to the Stock Options world.

You are not getting preferred stocks, not getting RSUs. U r getting options, which u have to buy and basically bet on future of the company. If you are not a co-founder or part of the board, you should never take a paycut. It is the downward spiral. There are no bonuses, no regular appraisals. If you bring another offer to compete after 6 months, you stub your toe and they make you leave with all stocks unvested. Make them give you a hike, with no compromise on stocks either

Coding some SQL and using some TensorFlow in Python doesn't make someone A.I. Startup

The question is vague. What is ur risk appetite. If low risk , stay where you are. If you are having some appetite of risk then u need to ask urself what is the type of startup ( angel invested, Series a , b , c , d,....). Next is what industry they work. What are u going to do an ai company doing ai stuff . If you are not working in ai and just company each company stock comp is different at their respective stage and what is ur level. I don’t know if u are an associate or senior engineer or manager. Check Glassdoor which is accessible to many of ur questions or search for salary or stock options or rsu s

It’s still seed money. And my role would be the first product designer in a team of less than 10

Some ppl doing JavaScript bots are calling themselves an AI company so just beware it's a bad time to discern opportunities by buzz words.

Companies having minimum wage humans type responses are calling their tech AI. I would stay far away from any company claiming to have real tech unless you've actually seen the codebase, a live prod demo, and understood how it works.
