Hi all, I joined Google as a new grad in September of 2023, and now I have been offered a position to Amazon Dublin. I don't like Warsaw at all, I feel out of place here, I am afraid I may not like Dublin either, as it won't be as international as London(I did internship there, and I liked the city). I have several questions, where I would love to get your opinion. 1. How is the Amazon culture in Dublin? 2. My base salary for Dublin is 79k euros, is that enough to get by in Dublin? 3. Should leave my current job at Google, the promotion will be longer than 2 years at the current team. Internal transfer almost impossible. Thank you all in advance! #engineering #software #offer
Amazon culture everywhere is brutal be it Europe US or India Not worth leaving google
As you are unhappy in Warsaw OP, I recommend to make this move for your happiness sake. Amazon culture in EU is more chill than US but its still Amazon culture
The culture is what people say it is. Although money wise, you'd get first year bonus + if you get on-call you'll be paid for it when you work after hours. If you're looking for 1BHK/Studio it could be expensive, but if you share the place with someone you can get your own room at around 1000-1200. Post tax you'd get somewhat close to 5k a month including bonuses. If possible see if you can internally switch in Google in some time
What do you not like about Warsaw? You might not like Dublin for similar reasons. Also it has a few times smaller population, is more rainy and gloomy, and maybe they speak English but nobody understands what they say anyway. Don’t assume that it’ll be similar to London, it’s not great
What would make you more unhappy: not liking the city you live in, or PIP culture and worse WLB? The latter would probably make me more unhappy in the short term. Use some work from anywhere time to spend 2 weeks in Dublin to see if you like it enough to risk it.
Amazon culture is the same everywhere. Directors have to meet a certain unregretted attrition quota and will PIP accordingly. Dublin, Seattle, Hyderabad, doesn’t really matter where you are.

The rental market in Dublin is very bad now, expect to pay at least 2.5k a month for an apartment in the city. If you're ok sharing an apartment or having a long commute it might work for you. Otherwise Dublin is a very nice place to live for people with families, but not so much for single people.
