Should I leave Microsoft FTE for a contract Sr Position MSFT Support Escalation Engineer- TC = $121,000 Contract 12 Month Sr. Azure Detection Engineer = $195K
So for this position I’d be W2 with full benefits Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, Sick Days. No 401K or stick options or bonuses unfortunately. I’d work directly with the recruiting firm

Probably stay at Microsoft and switch teams. Or interview for FTE positions outside of Microsoft, maybe faang
That is not a smart move. Why don’t you go to another department within Microsoft? Or, interview at another FAANGMULA?
I agree with him op. Like my 3-5 year goal is literally to eventually get into microsoft. Youre at an amazing company with some badass department. Move around to another team
Appreciate it guys! Probably will with move to another team or Google next. Going to just chill and reap the benefits with MSFT for now
It is not a smart move to go from FTE to contractor as you will lose RSUs, RRSP match, vacation days, etc. If you do decide to make a move, in Canada you do not have to worry about basic healthcare, although you will lose your supplemental insurance.
Not a wise move imo. Instead you can try to move within MSFT, for example to CSA team. Even if you move laterally w/o promotion, CSA role will have sales bonus on top of basic salary. Easier to move to FAANG later if you stay.
What is CSA?
Cloud solution architect
Move to another company instead as a FTE. That will bump your salary. In the next company, when they ask you your expectations, just give them a number that matches that TC you want.
Appreciate it man! Possibly looking at Google next

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
Isnt there some catch with contract positions where you lose a lot of the pay from taxes and the lack of other benefits like yearly bonus, stock bonus, 401k match, vacation days, etc
