Joined a big company 2 months ago, dramatically improved my TC. I'm doing pretty well, but the job is kinda boring and the ppl are...meh Boss is really good, WLB is amazing, I barely have any work, not sure if I should be concerned or I'm just mostly bored out of my mind... Is it a bad move to switch jobs so soon? I'll have to return my sign on bonus, can I ask future companies for a higher bonus to compensate for that? Again, is it a good/bad move in general? I used to work at least 3-4 years, last job (Akamai) I lasted way more than that... Not sure if it's a smart career move. YOE 16 TC 285
Unless you are getting a hundred thousand bump, this is not a reason to quit. Keep delivering. Make good relationships. May be your boss will leave before you. And then he might ask you to join at the new company with lot more money. So, unless you are pissed, I would recommend spending at least a year
What was your TC before this new company?
~170-180
Truly a dramatic increase in TC
2 months period is not enough to decide. However if you got a better offer, go for it and don't look behind
That's a good point. Used to be a manager, and now I'm an IC. Not a big deal, I just feel less satisfied by that because I think we should do things differently.... Probably want to go back to management, which might be possible in the future, definitely not now
Current company name?
What is the current company
From the description akamai. From the TC not akamai.
Consider a 2nd job?
I left MS after 5 mo for similar reasons. I had worked in mid-sized companies so really i was missing the hustle and comraderie at work. I left to join a startup as head of Product :) even though i took a pay cut (of around 10%) Really glad of that decision. Enjoyed that place for 2.5 years and learnt a lot and had a lot of fun. PS: I had 10 YOE when this was happening so I was fairly confident of my skills/profile at getting a job in mid sized companies. This is essential. PPS: they did cover my joining bonus
Thanks for that, do you add this to your resume? Did it come up in interviews? What was your reply?🙏
I did. While talking through my background i talk about it like "I could sense very early this wasn't a great setup for me so cut my losses". Almost everyone appreciates not hanging on if you are not really excited. Having said that, the next place you go to, do try to spend a good tenure so that you don't seem fickle minded.
I thought one year minimum was the standard advice.

Do you believe that India is slowly moving towards Dictatorship?
Seems to be a good move. If you have WLB , then maybe you should get some hobbies and enjoy your life. When we overwork and find WLB, it feels boring initially. But that time can be used in many different ways.
