Looking for work and I have been targeting FT roles at FAANG company (non-tech) for a while. I’ve been referred by friends/colleagues and specifically for a role at one of the 5 and also decided to contract with a related company (e.g., WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube etc.) to have an in. It is potentially contract to permanent and roughly equivalent with just base salary but the direct role is obviously more/better in total comp and a direct hire with the company’s benefits. I don’t know yet if I’m progressing forward with the FT role but everything is in early stages and seems to take a while/several months. Should I be telling the recruiter/agency that I’m interviewing for FT roles....or is that a given with accepting contract work? I’d be fully happy with the role/company if it were FTE but if the other role progressed I would prefer it since it’s a FT role immediately on joining. Also it seems like the same team has headcount for the same role now from a posting in the website. But I haven’t applied on their website. Any thoughts?
You should review your contract on how burning the bridge works as you’ve already accepted contract work. Your agency will flip at you, as they’ll probably lose money from you walking out.
Thanks I don’t have a contract yet but verbal acceptance. It’s actually interesting too because the same role it looks like has just opened up as an opening on their team and they might have headcount now so I don’t know if I should/would have to apply to it on the website.
Probably not. I had accepted a full time offer. Prior to interviewing to full time. The recruiters for the contract position took 3 weeks to get me an interview. After I told him it was too late and I already accepted an offer. He literally got mad at me
Yeah they’ve taken a long time with contract on boarding for me. But I’ve also heard that they are slow on the FT recruiting too which is why I’m leaning toward start with the contract but also expressing interest in if there could be a quick conversion or my simultaneously interviewing for any available FT roles that might be a fit.
Contract to me unless you're desperate sounds like a terrible opportunity. Reason is even if you're at a full time job you don't like. At least you supposedly have a non-finite amount of time to look. With a contract. Clock is ticking everyday. I'm glad to have gotten the full time job I got
