My current TC is 110k in Arizona, where I pay 600$ a month rent and live a luxurious life. I have an offer which is 150k base and TC of ~180k to move to Cali with an office in MTV. I am a single guy and don't spend much. Should I move or stay in AZ? Edit- I would be needing just a single room with attached bath and closet to live. #tech #relocation #relocationpackage #bayarea #sunnyvale
110k in AZ > 300k in the bay.
single guy stay in AZ, bay area is a sausage fest
By single I mean , I live alone...Not single in the context you are mentioning 😅
You live alone with 600$. Live alone in a decent place in the bay is $3k. Just to give you a comparison
Jesus, how are people voting like this? I live in San Jose (20mins from MTV). You can get an amazing apartment for $1600 (if you share). Food and utilities are not much higher (I pay 250-300 for that per month and 1100 for rent for a decent apt). You're still saving most of that extra 70k.
State income tax is higher + sdi. So it's 30-40k more a year after taxes. You then have to get a roommate which can be a huge buzzkill for dating. I would still move though. Bay area is better in many ways than Arizona.
How's it a buzzkill in dating? I haven't been at that stage yet, so would like to know beforehand.
You must be kidding us right? This must be a troll. You should obviously stay in Arizona
How would you counter the comment made by @fin_engg
What’s there to counter? I mean he’s assuming you want to go from living by yourself to sharing an apartment and totally ignoring your “luxurious lifestyle”. I am assuming you want to maintain a comparable lifestyle which would mean 3k in rent. Also no way you’ll be living anything close to luxurious here with that TC. Want to spend a night out of town over the weekend? Budget 300$+/night at the very least(assuming you can find something that’s not booked already). Want to drive somewhere fun over the weekend? Budget for spending hours in traffic. And I could go on and on. So if you want to keep your lifestyle don’t do it. If you want to downgrade to college student lifestyle then sure, come over and save 10k more each year
It depends, mainly house 🏠 is very expensive in California. I suggest move to California
Why are people suggesting to stay in Arizon? 2 bhk will cost 3k-3.5k so 1600 which is only 1k more for him. Lets add another 500 for increased expenses. That's 1.5k per month, i.e. 18k per year. His TC is higher by 70k, i.e. 49k after tax (aasuming 30%). Do the maths man.
1. downgrade to with roommate and OP live is luxurious, your option will be a square in barnbox. Not even remotely the same 2. extra 13% tax 3. extra tax on any breathing action 4. literally everything much higher price 5. air quality, live quality down You should do the math. Simplest calculator: https://www.nerdwallet.com/cost-of-living-calculator/compare/phoenix-az-vs-san-francisco-ca 110k Phoenix = 221k in SF and thats upper boundary
Sorry depends on the flatmate, I live with my friend, and we never faced any such issue. Infact its an upgrade, we have food together (instead of eating alone), watch movies, sitcoms etc. It's like living with your college friend. It also helps that you are not alone all the time when doing wfh. But it could be a cultural thing as well, and if OP has to live with a complete stranger, then its upto him. I would have thought people have so many friends from college in Bay Area.
Are you planning to buy a house?
No, I would just be needing a single room with attached bath and closet lol.
You get ~3.5k/mo after tax $$ more to pay for the elevated expenses in the bay, mostly rent, I don't see you losing money. You don't gain much either. I would consider more on lifestyle (multicultural/liberal) and opportunity (startups/swe haven) over $$.
California is a disaster. Drought, wildfire, crime, high taxes.
Everywhere in the country is a disaster by some metric.
Gotta deal w trumpanzees everywhere else?
Move to California for better weather and better opportunities in the future.
How are you getting $600 rent 👀, stay in AZ
I searched for an opportunity and seized it :P
Wait. I thought he/she is paying the rent and not getting it. What!!
