Long story short I was laid off from Amazon in April and my notice period ended in July. In August I was hired at this seed stage startup and today I was let go without cause. I was employed at the startup for ~45 days. I feel very shitty rn tbh but I’m just evaluating what should I do? I could potentially say I was hired on contract and put on my resume that the contract was not extended past September? I really don’t want to have a large employment gap and am worried about this affecting my job search. What do you guys think? YOE: ~2
That short is just going to look like a red flag, even if you have good reasons. I would leave it off. Spinning it as a short-term gig might work, but could also blow back on you negatively.
Just leave it off and consider it a 45-day paid vacation to recharge or something.
Id leave it off. Anything under like 4 months is “time off to travel and recharge before jumping back into interviews”.
At a certain seniority you can start to say you just took some months or even years off because you’re already set financially and just working for the opportunity to build. This requires you to avoid the urge to go announce your layoff on LinkedIn.
Background check may flag it so be prepared to explain the omission at that point.
