Godi Media: Very little coverage of Prajwal case.
Hi community, I don't like the work culture in Amazon at all. For that reason, I am planning to switch, but should I simply resign or make my manager keep in pip so that they will be giving me option to quit and take severance or be in pip. (I would offcourse take severance😌). I am also applying for other companies. currently i dont have any offer in hand. PS: My impression of work ethics is not great in Amazon. So i believe i can make them keep me in pip😜 #engineering #software #swe #amazon
How long have you been there?
1.5 yrs as SDE1
It may be hard to line up your next job with the pip. In any case I would not quit until I had another offer in this job market. But sure if you can pull it off try to time the pip.
what if I get an offer before i get piped? in that situation i can take the Severance without any impact on next offer right?
Well if you get another offer before you get PIPed you will just need to resign. You can’t just walk to your boss and say you want to leave and get severance. Also typically they only offer you severance when they present the PIP where you can immediately resign and get severance or try to work through the PIP. If you take the PIP you usually can’t go back a few weeks later and get the severance. So the only way this works is if you get the offer shortly before your PIP or with a company that is ok delaying your start by a few months and hope you get your PIP before your start date.
Never quit just collect your free money
No other company will know about your pip. Start looking for another role, get a higher TC offer then leave. A PIP isn’t just free money, and depending on where you are they can be hard to come by, they will first try and get you to quit, then focus 30-60 days then pip
when you say "they will first try and get you to quit". do you mean by offering severance they try to get me quit?
Just wait for pip severance. On an unrelated note, does anyone know timeline from failed focus to being served pip docs?
It would take a week or two probably for your manager to prepare the PIP doc and the HR to process it. After which if you choose severance, you will have to serve a month notice period in India
I think you would first be put into a coaching plan and then comes the PIP. It would be a long way down the road to reach to the severance part of it. So, its up to you if you want to buy a lot of time and fool them around while you prepare for your next switch or just quit and look for a switch in the meanwhile
My manager keeps using the word ‘coaching’ vs ‘focus’. Are they the same or different?
