I've been interviewing with Synopsys and we've gotten to the stage where they want to talk numbers. They asked what my salary expectations are and I told them it should be better than what I'm currently making. The recruiter hinted the lower end of the range is 120k. At Siemens EDA, a lot of people left, so they've been giving me more work than I can handle and made me in charge of training new hires. I recently found out that the starting salary they're offering to completely new folks is the same as what I'm currently making except I am making slightly more. I've started feeling very undervalued and under appreciated because of this. The only downside about Synopsys is that I'd have to relocate and do long distance with my partner for some time (but we talked and we can make it work). If Siemens can match my offer or do better, should I stay? Or should I ignore the company and any guilt (since I'm leaving them with only newish AEs) and take the pay raise with Synopsys? TC: 75k YOE: 4
What makes you think the 'more than you can handle' work will become any less if you accept their counter offer? Also, will that compensate for the disappointment of earning only slightly more than new grads right now? Where will you learn and grow more? These and the relocation/COL issue are the questions you need to be asking yourself.
Take the job with the higher pay as long as it allows you to learn more and grow. Best way to increase your salary is to hop companies every so often. New college grads will at some point start making more than you
I'm curious, did they end up matching your offer? I'm actually expecting an offer from Siemens EDA soon and told them 120k for 3 yoe SWE. Ooof, 75k for 4yoe.I suspect this offer I'm waiting on won't be anywhere close to what I'd accept.

Living is overrated
No need to feel any guilt as tomorrow if company doesn’t do well they will ask you to go, so you need to take decision what’s best for you and you are not married to the company nor you’ll work for the company till retirement, so someday you anyway going to leave so why not now if you are getting good hike. Remember because you have only 4 years of experience so initially you need to run behind learning and not earnings and after some good experience (7-8ysRs) earning will run behind you , but if you miss these initial 6-7 years And don’t learn much then remaining years in IT industry is very challenging and difficult to survive.
