I joined MSFT 2 years ago as a new grad. After 1.5 years I was promoted to L61. I am happy with my team, manager and the WLB I have. But the only issue I feel is that I am getting just too comfortable here and seems like I have hit my learning opportunities in this team. Work is interesting and teammates are also helpful but I am getting a little bit bored with working on the same product. At this point I don't want to leave MSFT for more TC(since I'm half way through in I-140 process), but would like to explore another opportunities internally. Is it a good idea to explore another opportunities internally to try out something new or stick with this team since manager/team/wlb/work is nice? L61 YOE 2 Tc: 205k
Did you talk to your boss about this?
If you switch teams you might end up restarting I-140 process (I believe if the JD differs by more than 50%)
Ouch, that sucks. Is there any way to know about this without talking to the manager?
I’m not 100% sure but it boils down to whether the new manager accepts the previous JD or not. At Amazon, I’ve heard there are multiple different pay entities, so if you switch orgs you restart the process. Not sure how that works at Microsoft If your PERM process isn’t complete, you still have a fair amount to go
Hey buddy!
You always want to be in a position so that you not only grow but also learn. L61 is a really good time to switch because I think at that point more HMs are willing to talk to you. Another plus is that you work with more people and expand your network. In tech, you never want to get too comfortable, if that makes sense. 😬 If you do move and you have a good manager, I’m sure they’ll understand when the time comes. Good luck!
I140? It's only two weeks to be approved right?
If you switch your teams and then job duties or title change, i-140 needs to be reapproved
Can you tell me more about why you want to wait for I-140? Assuming you have premium processing, you will get approved in 15 days
Why don't you want to leave MSFT for more TC?
Waiting for i-140. I'm Half way through, so might take 1 more year
Okay, just switch teams
