Worried about the data they can see! #tech Edit: My main concerns are freedom of speech and how that might impact executive management visibility. Secondly, is it like teams where anyone can easily search you up now on all meta apps and see your stories even if you’re not public profile? Does having a burner account impact your performance capability? #apple #meta #google
I don’t know about Meta. But my experience at AWS is that I could see everything. All your user account info including name, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, etc (except payment details), your ec2 instance file systems, your lambda programs, your S3 objects (unless encrypted with a password on your side). So yeah even if you have another account, if your original account has any ties to you (like name, phone number, email address) it won’t take long for someone to find it if they want to find your real account. But if you’re just expecting a cursory glance then yeah having a burner account might work. Personally, if I saw an account that was brand new with almost no usage I surely would look for another account.
I don’t care about the personal information. My concerns are now what I mentioned in the edited post section.
Are your “Freedom of speech” posts public? If so they can already see them so what’s the concern exactly? My experience in tech has been that most companies don’t care about your views on freedom of speech unless you use your access to either hinder others speech or amplify your own/others by misusing company resource and violating company policy and probably some laws. No, the average employee is not going to be able to see anything you don’t post publicly. Finding your profile and messaging you might be a different story, I think FB use to use Messenger for communication internally but I’m not sure if that’s still the case or not.
Unless you made offensive racist posts or other crap, nobody gives a damn.
Unless this person is apply for a director level or higher position this is not a concern. Most of these companies don’t do social media checks for engineers. Again, even if they did and the comments are private technically they’re violating your privacy by digging through your non public posts. But…I mean if they digging through your non public posts…I don’t think they care that technically they can’t use that against you during hiring. So they probably will.
Right, I should've been clearer. Nobody is going to do a systemic check, but if OP really has a dark past and someone points it out to Meta, then the company would look into it.
Policy says you only should have a single FB account. I didn't want to use my personal account but I was too nervous to create another account
Policy says you should have a single FB account (as in not with joint account with a spouse) but you can create a new account for work. Did I misunderstand?
I might be mistaken but “technically” I think both joint accounts and additional accounts under your own name are against the rules. But, as I said in my other post it seems many FB employees do create a personal and work account. And I have family members who have 25 FB accounts because they keep forgetting their password too sooo.
Can you apply to Meta without a Facebook account? Never had one and I don’t really want one. Would that be a problem?
You can’t. It’s part of the on boarding process
The bar
I opened a work account and it was best decision ever. Never heard that you should only have 1 account. You definitely don’t want these people knowing any of your true opinions about anything. They will take issue and it will hurt your standing. I had fun being the lone Trump voter in 2016, they never knew it.
Just open a burner one. Idk how much they actually see but the IG/FB and whatever account does get connected more than what I would feel comfortable with. Like you would start seeing [FB-Only] blah blah notification on your FB and IG. If you are not comfortable with that then might as well open a burner FB account.
What’s the impact of the burner account? I heard at meta it’s all about visibility on your inside platform. Will the burner impact your performance capability?
No impact. It’s not like as part of your work someone is actually look at your FB account. It’s more like if you are worried about your personal FB account being officially connected to meta employment in the backend or not.
