I know it’s weird especially with layoffs. But do some of you feel like we should stay faithful to at least our team esp. when it’s a good one? MS gave me GC and amazing Mgr and teammates. I love my team but want to explore a bit before coming back if possible. Money is just numbers. I don’t like internal interview at MS (full loop), maybe difficult to come back, so risky but same pay. Meaning(“Faithful”) = Refusing opportunity to move and learn new things (and more money) from a direct competitor to stay in current position. Please, please, I know people are all about money here but asking from a very inexperienced person. If you have a lot of life and career experiences, I’d appreciate hearing your thoughts. The reason for leaving is mainly to explore, but financial part sweeten the deal and compensates risk, but at such an early stage (<5 yoe) it doesn’t matter. Comments from ex-Microsoft hugely appreciated!!! Especially those who moved to competitors (AMZN, G, etc). Did you regret it? Would you do it? #swe #engineering #software TC: 250K
Companies won’t be faithful to you. Do what’s best for you while not completely screwing people over.
Stop delivering for your boss and team and you'll find out if they are faithful to you
Employment is a business transaction. They get something, you get something (not necessarily TC, there are other things too). If the transaction is not to someone's liking, it shouldn't go through.
FK NO!!!
It depends on your manager and the management. Good managers are a rare species and there are plenty of bad ones out there, so when you get a good one and someone who is going places, it’s best to stay put. On the other hand, it’s incredibly important to gain a diverse set of professional experiences - so the conundrum you are facing is common, and at your age - you may want to risk and explore.
♥️
Of course not, unless you are working for a family owned company and you know the family (and they treat you well). We still need to do our jobs well, but if we find a better opportunity, move on without a second thought.
Self growth is what matters and decides your value. Being faithful at the cost of learning is detrimental to your career and life in general.
I'm as faithful as the left are to Palestine or the right to Israel 😭
Be faithful that one can increase tc
