Hi gang, I have been applying for a long time now at FAANG companies across the US and Canada, but still only had 2 interviews. I think it's partly because I live in Canada and don't have FAANG experience on my resume. I am happy to report that I do have an offer with Amazon as a Sr. PMT, but it's not with a cool line of business (not with AWS, Alexa, etc.). However, it would allow me a path "to get in" to a FAANG and hence allow me to transfer internally, etc. Plus the brand cred is very valuable Has anyone else had this dilemma? Just taking a suboptimal role to get into a FAANG? Success?
Yes, don’t judge a book by it’s cover. What’s more important than a “cool” team is your manager and making sure you’re learning a ton. As an examples, Alexa does not have a great rep internally so you’re dodging a bullet there.
This. Alexa is a sinking ship full of toxicity.
What are thoughts on Echo (hardware) team, I think it’s not also part of Alexa correct? Not sure if you’re talking about both here
If you want a career as a PMT then yes… Amazon is top tier employer and will open a lot of doors and provide great career growth opportunities. The business line doesn’t matter.
Agreed. Amazon is great for PM and you can easily move internally!
