Seems everyone on here is caught up chasing TC, promotions and everything in between. Any other person also passionate about personal/side projects? building businesses on the side and thinking of exiting that career huzzle ? If yes, how do you balance it? what is your motivation TC: 320 Yoe: 4
I have a lot of "side projects" but they're all at work. If I started a personal, non-work project it probably wouldn't go anywhere or have any impact. But a work side project could impact millions of people, and all the infrastructure is already set up. Besides, maybe it'll help me with promotions and TC...
I have a side project for showing historical climate trends. It is not for profit, mostly for my own learning and curiosity: https://www.lina.run/climate/trends?month=1&day=1&stationCode=USW00023174
Global warming!
No one can deny global warming, not even the GOP. But people can argue it's not men made and not possible to resolve by stopping green house gas emissions

Unpopular take here: Building tech focused businesses on the side is extraordinarily difficult nowadays With the way VC funding has exploded, many former “side projects” are now getting millions in seed funding. With that cash and focus they will almost always beat someone working on something a couple of hours per day after work. The only exception to this I think is making games Keep investing and saving money then take the plunge into something riskier when you are bored and have a comfortable nest egg
Hmmm this makes alot of sense, and i quite agree building on the side with a fulltime is extremely difficult, however aside the money which can also be gotten from investing, wont you consider just pushing yourself to do those few hours and seeing the possibilities of actually building something?
Depends on where I am in life. Building a company to escape the career hustle is a stupid idea. Building a company is 100x harder than the career hustle. Go look at the LinkedIn of any of your favorite pre-ipos. Most of them have probably been at it for over a decade and typically they don’t see a lot of success until the latter half of that decade If you fail? It sucks. If you succeed? You’re in for a grind and it also probably sucks. There’s a reason why not everyone tries to be a founder
