I love my air for personal development. I've got a pro for work, if they were the same size it would be harder to tell them apart when quickly grabbing one or switching between them. And the air is so light for bringing to a coffee shop on a weekend or whatever. It runs everything I need, just less screen real estate.

The MacBook Air has no fan. It uses passive cooling. Depending of the workloads you run, this could be overheating problem.

Pretty much a noop for us coders.

I’m planning to get the maxed out 15” air. Should be plenty powerful.

MacBook pro. The higher specs means you can compile, run test suite, format/lint faster. While not the same but for me going from 2019 MBP to 2023 was also noticeably faster. Don't underestimate how annoying programs can be, looking at you teams. Same with some IDEs. Also check for external monitor support, as airs I think support 1 sometimes 2 while MBP can support up to 4, depending on which model/year you get. 2-3 external monitors is ideal.
