why is it that Slack’s stock has been just average, but Zoom’s stock is killing it? they both face tough competition from incumbents in their respective industries
Slack is overpriced chat.
Sales calls are closed on zoom not chatting with potential customer on slack. Revenue is king!!
Use Zoom and you will find that out yourself. My Kindergartener can use Zoom without any issue... you can just imagine how good that product is.
I’ve used zoom. It’s great. Slack isn’t bad either
If I had to look back, I would say Zoom is WhatsApp in its domain of web meeting as WhatsApp was in texting. All the carriers just squeezed Texting and never innovated, same way Cisco (defacto web sharing) treated WebEx and left Zoom boom. GTM and others couldn’t beat the market strategy of Zoom. I saw the value when my vendors would use Zoom in Sales/Support calls... later I saw VMWare using Zoom for support calls, guess what I am at 20x of my Zoom investment in 10 months.
Love Zoom
Slack stock is still undervalued based on other quite similar stocks (not based on financials). It will go up soon.
Microsoft teams is catching up and most of the companies use office. So its easy to integrate. Visa uses teams eben though teams and skype is shitty
Microsoft is always in catching up mode 😝 in fact they love catching up.
Microsoft has both Zoom and Slack competitors. Zoom still seems to be doing well
Slack probably faces more competition from Microsoft which has it's stock under pressure. Metrics don't lie. They've been unable to add as many more new users during this year while Zoom and Microsoft have. Stock is valued correctly. Revenue and profitability growth are tied to usage growth. If you can't crack that, you're stock will only trade sideways. And unlike Tesla, they're not innovative enough to have a competitive edge!
Probably because new companies aren’t signing up for Slack, since they already had it or have another chat solution in place. I suppose many companies didn’t have a reliable and high quality video solution, so they signed up for Zoom during covid. That’s why I assume it’s getting so many investors, of course the stock price is probably inflated and disconnected from actual company worth based on revenue figures.
“I suppose many companies didn’t have a reliable and high quality video solution” - perhaps you never worked remotely? Never heard of WebEx, GotoMeeting, etc?
Keyword is “video” just a check mark of video is not good enough. You need to nail it - zoom killed it and hence the consumer base and usage. And slack and zoom are two different products. Not apples to apples comparison. One is for integration and collaboration tool and the other is for video conferencing.
