Sleep issues

Anyone here has sleep issues? I have never really needed a lot of sleep and was able to function normally with 4 to 5 hours of sleep every night. This last year however has been horrible. The number of hours I sleep I get does not make a difference to how I feel in the morning. I feel like tired and generally like crap all day even if I get 12 hours of sleep at night. I have an appointment with a sleep clinic next month but any advice is appreciated.

Ever since I worked globally, where I was in New Jersey and my company was headquartered in London, I haven’t slept right. The good thing is that I was able to work from home when I wasn’t traveling (about 80%). But I learned to take power naps -20 minutes that would recharge my internal batteries. Now that I have to go in the office I am completely screwed up as I don’t sleep more than 4 hours at night. I wake up and get on my phone and start answering e-mail from our India or UK folks; and can’t get the tine to power nap, as I have to start driving in. So needless to say, sleep completely evades me!!!

Check for sleep apnea

I have it and have been using a CPAP since 1990

About once a month as I’m drifting off to sleep this happens to me. I end up fully conscious standing up unable to breathe for about 30 seconds. Only happens if I’m severely sleep deprived though.

I had the same issue and found the root cause to be low T. Are you man and if so how old are you?

Veritas PPyg58 Nov 3, 2018

I am a man who would love to be in my 40’s again, and my T levels are DEFINITELY NOT an issue!!! 😀

If you’re getting close to 40, sleep is common issue

That's what I am going to the sleep clinic for. I just don't want to go to bed with a cpap machine.

32/ Male..don't think low T is an issue.

Guys with cpap, does it take a lot of getting used to, sleeping with a mask on? Also having to carry the device around when ever u travel?

Airbnb jim.hodlen Nov 3, 2018

I take it wherever I go. my machine came with a decent sized travel case. a lot of people struggle with finding a good mask, I was lucky my first mask (AirFit F20) worked reasonably well for me. the most challenging part of the therapy for me was getting the pressure range right. my initially prescribed pressure was too low to relieve my symptoms and I had to get a second opinion.

Does this become something you get so used to that you cannot live without? What happens if the machine isn't available for a night? Can u sleep at all?

Try sleeping in 90min increments to avoid waking up in the middle of a REM cycle

Vlocity FTJU OP Nov 3, 2018

How do you do that at night. Set up an alarm for every 90 minutes?

Airbnb jim.hodlen Nov 3, 2018

90 minutes is an average. YMMV. don’t set an alarm if you can afford to

Market Track pIxL65 Nov 3, 2018

Just set your alarm so that it's a multiple of 90min.. so if you're going to bed set the alarm to either 6, 7.5, or 9hrs later. You can also get an app that tracks your body movements and decides when to wake you up to optimize your sleeping time. The one i use is called "sleep as android"..

good luck on your sleep study. hopefully they find something actionable. I found out I had mild sleep apnea and got a cpap machine.
