I got a email from Snap saying I got the Software Engineer position and asking me for expected compensation. I replied with: AUD 170,000 per year base AUD 80,000 per year equity TC = AUD 250,000.00 per year The reply was that they can only offer AUD 120,000 per year base USD 80,000 (over 4 years) equity TC = AUD 150,000.00 per year At Snap L3 but its not final and they will try to bring it up After a while, I got a call with the details of the new offer AUD 140,000 per year base USD 200,000 (over 4 years) equity TC = AUD 212,000 per year Is this a low ball offer and if so how do I negotiate up? Actually he won't. Taking 1000 dollars per day. In 8 months, he will make about 200k but without holidays and loses chance to make more if he shifts to US
Truly awesome offer mate. 212 is vp of engineering (mid level managers) level at most decent places in Sydney. So go figure.
I don't think this is the right mindset to go into negotiation, suppose they said they pay equitably across location (which is something you should ask them before hand to hold them to their words), then you should negotiate based on the market rate in Silicon Valley not Sydney.
