Teslas are overrated
Passed phone screen: 10 minutes on introduction. 5 minutes on security. (others spent 30 minutes asking security questions). 40 minutes on coding: 1. LC medium: had to explain algorithm, write code, run & pass test cases. 2. follow-up hard. only got time to figure out and explain algorithm. Is it normal to ask security engineer LC hard? Facebook/Amazon only asked much simpler coding question (no need to run). I will probably fail VO if they ask hard again...
good luck 🙂
What data structure was it though?
Of course it's not normal. It's not even that normal for SWEs to get LC-hard. Having said that, it depends on the position. Security is huge and some areas do need more algorithms focused. Also, it depends on how the question was phrased, was it an extension of your previous one, etc etc. If it was really a hard and you could explain it and kinda give your approach, I don't think for a normal security position (infra, appsec, prod, etc.) It should affect you. UNLESS of course, all other interviewees destroy the hard as well as the rest which is not likely.
