Got an L4 offer from Snap. WLB is team dependent but wanted to ask in general how the WLB is at Snap? Have an offer from Meta as well (E4) and wanted to know which one to choose. Do Snap/Meta have concept of PIP? My preference is to pick a company with better WLB, benefits, no PIP Blind Tax: Old TC: 🥜 New TC : ~300k(meta) ~350k (snap) YoE : 2
If you believe in Snap stock then def Snap. Although, fb stock not doing good either
How about wlb, benefits and pip?
Might be the perfect time to join, RSUs are valued when you start
From a purely profitable aspect, you should take the Meta position. I think FB / Meta is a shit company that’s responsible for more than it’s fair share of global bullshit. But if that doesn’t matter to you, take it. They are simply too big to really fail. They have a lot of revenue sources and the cash on hand to buy small countries. What they can’t create themselves they will buy. Their stock is down 35% in the past month. Your equity grant will be based on the price of the shares when you become an employee. Their stock will regain this year most of the $120 / share its lost and you are going to be sitting pretty with that vesting.
Congrats on the offers. A recruiter told me that Snap doesn’t consider L4 with less than 3 YOE. Would you mind sharing your experience in landing an L4 offer? Did you apply for L3 and get up-leveled?
If you blow the interview panel away you can get l4 with < 3yoe if people advocate for you
They initially said panel calibrated for L3 but then I showed them my competing offers and they came back with L4 offer
Meta has a concept of firing you if you don’t make it to E5 in 33 months. So it’s a sure way to promo or getting fired. If you want promo don’t expect great WLB. Benefits (which are taxed) are decent, transport and wellness allowances that come to something like 5-6k altogether.
Here for the 🍿 but will add my twice cents anyways: Take a look holistically at both offers and decide which match your values best. If you value TC Meta is a fine choice. If you value teamwork, ask yourself about the interviewers you met, "Do I want to be like them?" Everything has an opportunity cost.
Op, can you provide the offer break down for both? Probably looking at RSU value could help to suggest.
snap is probably ~520k over 3 yrs
Yes 530k over 3 years
Snap does not have stacking refreshers. 350 will be same as FB 300 over three years. I was in a similar position and fb was a better choice for me compared to snap
even with fb refreshers it only catches up on 3rd/4th year right? not taking into account future performance
Yeah, but the 50k each year will be more like 25k diff each year. Depends how long op wants to stay
You should most definitely join Meta. Stacking refresher will get you higher TC in two years. Think long term
And then it loses permanently after year 4. Didn't you say think long term?
Meta is losing an important SVP next month. I think this is the beginning of executive attrition there.
Snap already did. Lol.
OP is e4 so it doesn’t matter to them whether any VP will stay or leave.
