Snr PM at Hopper?

Potential pros (from what I’ve read) - Good pay (if anyone has salary bands for L5 PMs at Hopper I’d like to knw) - Smart ppl - Autonomy Cons (from what I’ve read) - wlb is non existent Keen to know what its like @ Hopper. They’ve built some really cool stuff, but worried the travel industry is pretty cyclical + market insecurity #

Don’t know about bands for L5 PM, but think we’re still giving out solid offers (helps to have something to negotiate with of course). WLB and such will really depend on your team, but generally things are fast paced (STO allows for that). Definitely get a feel from your potential team and answer that question. Unlikely to be a rest and vest experience. On the flip side as you said the autonomy piece is real and you get to really drive work if you want to.

You’re right on the pros. The org structure is a huge advantage for PMs who are able to work autonomously, because you’re given nearly full independence on how to build your team and product. That said, you also have the accountability of the product’s performance resting on you. Great role if you like that tradeoff. Definitely not a rest and vest but I wouldn’t say nonexistent wlb. The culture is intense and performance-focused (as you need in an early stage company) but there’s no pressure to work long hours or anything like that. It’s really just about driving results, and a lot of the best PMs here have great wlb because they’re efficient and know how to drive impact.

Huge market insecurity, and they are pretty ruthless when it comes time to cutting costs. Are you on the fintech side? Ask what happened to their entire DS team. Be careful with equity and the 12 mo cliff. Do a search on LinkedIn and look at employees that made it 11mo exactly— then look at their next and previous job, they are not low performers. Finally, be careful with any startup, ask when their last valuation happened, then look at tech valuations from then, is their most recent valuation pre crash, are they still promising you they are in hyper growth mode? How can those two things be true simultaneously? Good luck!
