Social Media / Friends ruin fitness sometimes

I got into actually working out last year in the middle of the pandemic. At one point I was going 6x a week but it wasn’t sustainable for me. I took a long break and then started again, only to be halted by my job search. Now I have a new job and I feel stressed all the time and working out would help but I’m too mentally ill to find the motivation to go after work. But moreover, feel like social media and my friends ruin the fun of fitness by overcompetitiveness / smart assery. I don’t really have social media but my IG was deactivated for ~1 year until recently. On SM, even though I don’t follow any fitness / gym accounts, my explore page is filled with sub-10% body fat, obviously not-natty gym bros spreading misinformation. Then in my friends discord, we have a fitness channel where people post stuff about their fitness journey (which is positive) coupled with toxic competition comments, weird advice (sub 1200 cal diet, over emphasis on programs / lifts). It’s probably easy for me to ignore all of this - I’m mostly complaining to complain. I wish fitness / health wasn’t so media-tized.

You WFH at Amazon? I think it’s just easy as easing into it (go 1 day and just walk or do some machines don’t go too hard, next day maybe do a little more or just anything because anything is better than nothing). I do try to go often now but sometimes work is stressful and I just get consumed by it.

Yeah, it’s pretty bad. Best advice is find a diet that works for you in real life that you can slightly alter to gain/lose as needed. Diet doesn’t mean “temporary way of eating I hate to lose weight”, but rather “the sustainable way I plan on eating for health and longevity that matches my lifestyle”. Exercise - do whatever you don’t hate, and do it consistently. Play sports or lift heavy weights, run or bodybuild, yoga or long walks and pull ups. Doesn’t matter, just do it (or something) with consistency. Notice the big part - consistency with diet and movement equals success. It’s not sexy, doesn’t make for a lot of content, and doesn’t sell diet or workout programs. People want quick fixes and shortcuts - that shit doesn’t work, or does, but is unsustainable and leads to yo-yoing. Same shit happens everywhere. Ignore the hype, build the foundations, and consistently work towards a sustainable way of life. Big but boring.

I get it, dude. I consider myself to be athletic but find the fitness/sports community to be toxic at times. I recommend deleting social media again and giving yourself a break for not being motivated at the moment.

I feel like the issue with this is rooted in how we tend to compare ourselves to others, ya know? Kinda similar to Blind. You could be happy in your role and then come on Blind and see "new grad makes 500K" and suddenly you're unhappy. Just keep doing your thing! Focus on yourself and your own goals.

Agree with Uber. Why not remove toxic elements from your life? I don’t get people who say SM is depressing them and it’s so terrible yet continue to use it

LOL @ all the "natty" instagramers and youtubers selling diet plans and workout advice when its all useless and the most important thing is the Vitamin S and genetics. Absolutely sad that so many people fall for it and buy their useless protein supplements, gym stringers, and all that dumb stuff thinking its going to make them ripped. Remember Mike Rashid talking about Dana Bailey, "She's so natural she won't even take an aspirin!" LMFAO. "She's not on sterioids". And morons like Jeff Seid "Oh I've been training for 15 years bro trust me I'm natty, you have to train for 15 years to get a good physique, no shortcuts". Bradley Martyn, Simeon Panda, a million others are soooo cringe and should all be in jail. Literally the ONLY honest youtuber/instagrammer who ever lived was Jon Skywalker. He completely laid out his cycle and what drugs he's on dozens of times and is completely honest about his steroid usage.

That’s why I like Nyle Naga also, totally up front and open about his PEDs. It’s best to be open and help those who want to take them, as well as not set false expectations for natty results. How many older guys in the movies etc are on HGH and TRT, they should just be up front https://youtu.be/Ul9QhLT11IE
