Software Eng vs Data and Applied Science
Asking for a junior. (New grad) At Microsoft, which is better? YOE 3 TC 190K
Isn't this a personal preference? I know some people prefer SE related work while some want to work on ML.
Yeah but there are company cultural elements to the question like at amazon research scientist == data scientist == SDE, but applied scientist is more prestige and TC for same level
Fair enough. In Amazon at the same level, I believe it goes Applied Scientist > SDE > Data scientist. But their job scopes are quite different imo
You should start to think of software engineers as highly paid blue collar workers. The future for them is standardization and begging for pay, possibly unions. Go with data science.

If anything, ML can become the snake oil of our time! The number of incompetent ML experts and Data “Scientists” are too damn high!
