Thinking about taking to jump from Sr. Software Engineer into management. Any advice? Suggestions? I feel like theres not a ton of growth above me to continue software, the next ladder is management obviously. But is the money worth it? Or is it the logical next step once you get to this point.
You seem confused. Move to product management or software management?
I just meant it in a generalized “what’s the next step”. Product management or software management, management in general either of people and a team where you don’t code day to day and do more scrum organizing and charts and deliverables... or product management and shaping a product at a high level but still no more day to day coding. Or are people staying in software engineer possibly their whole life coding because actually the money can be better and what not?
It's also not easy to make the switch. There is often 1 PM for an entire product. Consider the pm:dev or sdm:dev ratio. They almost always get paid more than devs. Sometimes drastically more. If it interests you, worth taking a shot.
Product managers don’t manage people usually. They are ICs
Its good take. But dont leave your technical flavor.
