What do Solutions Architects do? Are they required to code??
Different job description for every company lol
Play Lego at work. Yes sometimes
General contractors of it. Need to get along with everyone. Knows a lot about their domain. Knows some about the rest of the business. More identifying solutions and implementation vs problem definition.
Is there anyone out here who was a swe, but moved to solution architect role? I am looking to get some tips.
As others said depends on the company. My current job is 90% coding but is all based on building custom integrations for clients. It’s a great gig with a lot of freedom and works well if you feel comfortable combining the responsibilities of a dev, PM and comms liaison into the same role. It’s not uncommon for the same person to perform customer discovery, determine scope, build and document the product and help train the customer during delivery. But there can also be larger engagements where those roles are broken up a bit. Culture is (usually) a bit more low key. Pay can be a little less, but not horribly off the mark compared to SWE. But you do need to have some drive and find enjoyment helping customers problem solve while having a detailed enough knowledge off all involved tech to see the big picture.
I am looking for a study group to prepare for the solution architect interview. DM me if you are interested

Depends on the company. Frequently they’re like IT consultants that are good at setting up their company’s products and integrating them with other products. You may need to write scripts, but you generally aren’t engineering products.
