Position- Senior software engineer with 10 YOE (5 YOE in US) Base - $140k RSU - $250k (5 year vesting) TC - $140k+ $50k = $190k Requires relocation from Bay Area to LA Current TC - $250k (bay area) Apparently valuation might increase by 5x in the next 5 years. They do buybacks every year any thoughts?
190k TC for real? People in bay area mostly have 200/300+ TC at FAANG at 5 YoE. I'd like to know what motivates you to take a paycut from 250k. PS:New grad here, so have a very shallow understanding of the world. All I know is what people post here on Blind. Just curious
If you believe a company will 5x then it’ll be better in the long run. So it’s kind of like buying stocks only with your employment
It’s also in LA which is actually cheaper cost of living than Bay Area so a pay cut may not seem that bad
As many have said before, only go if you really are passionate about the mission. You’ll sacrifice your wlb, and tc probably won’t be as competitive as elsewhere
I am passionate about the mission for sure! But Comp matters too
Exactly what Activaion said. Expect to work 10 hour days including weekends every weekend. The turnover ratio is pretty high. Raises are typically around 3% and 4-5% for exceptional work (basically shit ton of overtime and no vacations). If you require clearance, you have to maintain it, which means no more social media and the government knowing your whereabouts 24/7. If you still believe it’s with it, go for it. Good luck.
At what company valuation are they offering this stock ?
They won’t share the valuation but as per the latest funding round it seems to stand at $50B
The magic in the valuation will be star link going forward. More than likely, I expect a split but your shares should also split. Former employees lose out on a starLink split.
WLB can suck but good offer
Why do you say so?
SpaceX has a strong rep for burn out.
If you want to work in a high stress / high reward environment, go to Netflix. You’ll go from 250k to 500k, not the other direction.
Op just go for it. If it sucks you can move back to the Bay area. With the notoriety at working for a 🚀 ship you will be working in way better companies than eBay.
Are you on visa. Do they hire people on visas
Generally no. You need to be a US citizen due to ITAR.
Green card accepted too
That stock is going to take off.
Don’t go there for the TC go for the tech and helping humanity get to mars!
IMO it’s a unique space and looks much better on resume than eBay in the long run. Stock could indeed grow a lot but obviously no one can guarantee that.
