Spacex Interview

Hey, I am currently interviewing with SpaceX for starlink program. Can anyone tell me more about work environment? I like SpaceX mission and would love to contribute to it. But, I am skeptical after reading all the negative comments on Blind. Can someone please elaborate if wlb is really bad in ALL the teams? If not, what are some of the good teams? Current position: Sr. Software Engineer. #YOE 4 #TC 190K #SpaceX #career#engineering #software #swe

There’s actually a pretty stellar wlb. Your work becomes your life so there’s really not much to worry about balancing.

It’s not as bad as you hear. It’s worse than you want it to be though. 50-60 hour weeks is common. Sometimes it’s crunch time.

The "required" WLB is tolerable but if you want any sort of career growth you'll need to volunteer even more time. A lot of the internal systems were initially created by people as weekend projects to save them the tedious manual work they did M-F. If something is broken but "works" it won't be improved until someone fixes it over the weekends or late nights. It explains why so much of the tools and infrastructure are terrible and why people spend most of their time on tedious things. It's a culture that exists across the company - people often try to push back but eventually it regresses back into this pattern because Elon thinks a small teams at 80-100 hrs work faster than a big team with WLB.
