High TC Blinders, do any of you casually buy same day airfare to go to random events? Feel like if I had an extra $50k and no aspirations requiring major financial commitments I'd randomly travel long distances every other weekend. Or is everyone singularly focused on FIRE, real estate, and private schools?
I love to travel. Make it a point to as often as I can. Sometimes do road trips if I don’t want the hassle of flying.
This is why living in the Bay Area is so great. Drive 1-5 hours in any direction and there’s something exciting to do. Supplement this with reward travel, fueled by the high cost of living, and you can fly to Hawaii or NYC or other popular destinations for free every couple months.
I know of one direction you wouldn’t want to do that and couple others that would put you in the exact same spot after an hour. Exhilarating!
Reward travel?
I've done NYC a few times if there are good deals. I don't pay ridiculous airfare. That said, I have done a *ton* of spontaneous road trips.
Yeah, especially if you have the airline miles- you can get way more bang for your buck, especially international travel, with them. And doing trips over a long weekend burns less vacation time.

You must like wasting money
I don’t agree. OP is seeking adventure. I rarely find good memories to be a waste of money.
Yea, but why not to buy tickets in advance and save thousands of $$$?
