The spotify app is really a mess. All those people don’t seem to have fixed it, so uh
Says the Facebook app
it takes one to know one
Will be plenty more. Many unreported because numbers will be low.
Five months of severance. I would take it
Not around holidays
People in Sweden might get up to 1 year
I like Spotify and have paid for it since like 2016. But the value I get from it hasn’t changed much since then. they invested a ton in R&D since then without capturing greater share of wallet.
I used to work there - absolute waste of my time. They hired me during the time that they were hiring like crazy for a project that they literally shut down a few weeks after I started. My manager wasn’t given any info to actually succeed at her job or help me succeed at mine. We were in a holding pattern doing fuck all while they sent us on expensive off sites, I think mine was over half a million, where we also learnt nothing. Was then moved to a different team and put in a role that was the complete opposite of what I was hired to do, i was hired for creative and then put me in a sales job. I hated it and was not surprised or that upset that I was laid off a couple months later. They have no fucking clue what they’re doing, just riding on a solid brand. I left a job I enjoyed and was brought on and promised I’d work on so many things and one by one they stalled and then said we’re not doing that anymore. So I did NOTHING for about a year. Plus I was on a visa so they really fucked me over in that sense. I wouldn’t go near that company with a 10 foot pole if you’re thinking about it.
Sounds rough especially being on visa. Where did you end up if I may ask? I got laid off on visa too so I know the feels man
Oh I used it to my advantage negotiating severance and it worked lol - luckily my green card was approved a few weeks after being laid off so I’ve just been waiting for that to come through. However I’ve still been applying for jobs as normal for the last 6mo and had like one phone interview. I would have been fucked if not for the GC approval so at least I have something to look forward to.
Honestly they just need 1000 people to run it, but that have 10x more... Look at Twitter,Spotify should not be harder to maintain, also their business model is weak.
Great point
Isn’t this exactly the reason behind all the layoffs in the last 1 year ?
Atleast the leadership is honest that they over hired
Leaders are never held accountable for over hiring. It should be them who take the fall. We need better worker protections so employees don’t rely on the kindness of companies to offer 5 months severance because it’s usually the exception. Look to the EU where there are strict laws around notice and pay, not to mention healthcare not being a part of the equation like it is in the Us
Fuck worker protection! I am from the EU, living in the USA now. The level of bureaucracy, overhead and keeping old farts that do nothing is not worth it. Hire and fire fast, keep thing moving or we (westerners) lose to China. Innovate, including new skills and you find new job quickly. I was laid off in 2000, 2008, and 2019. No big deal, 6 months later, better job, better opportunities.
Leaders get held accountable by the board.
No need for another useless post like this when there’s already been hundreds before you
And yet I still posted it. Don’t like it then leave or get back to work broski
