I noticed that Spotify doesn't have too many posts on blind. It could be that people are not interested. Or it could be that the information gets buried under "Referrals" posts tagging Spotify. So since I'm on vacation, I'll take this opportunity to answer any questions about Spotify (US). Fire away! TC: 278k YOE: 3
What is the interview process like for a SWE?
Pretty standard. I won't say it's difficult if you've prepared for interviews. I was asked two LC medium (one famous, one not on LC). Other rounds were design and domain related. Also a huge emphasis on culture. With that being said, our recruiters are sometimes abysmal. It took me 2 months to complete the loop with frequent ghosting
It could be that folks are happy. Happiness at a company is inversely proportional to an anonymous community like Blind. Regularize for company size of course. A large company like Spotify without a blind community Is a great sign
This is true. I agree. I have noticed that most people seem happy here. This could be because of the healthy work culture.
How safe is Spotify to join right now?
My guess would be that it's fairly safe. Spotify has never/rarely laid off people in numbers. We did slow down hiring but still many new hires. My team has several new hires and some open positions. Then again, if something does happen, it would be an anomaly that no one could have foreseen :)
Thanks Spotify, wife is in talks with a recruiter from Spotify for scheduling further interview rounds. This is reassuring.
What is the backend stack like? Languages etc Do you have full remote? Is compensation location independent
Thanks for doing this! Are you sd2 or senior? I’m expecting an sd2 offer but looking at levels the TC doesnt come close to 278k
Congrats on the offer! I'm sd2 in ML. Here the ML bands are usually higher so that could explain the difference. Also I think they not negotiate much since internally it's believed that our stock is undervalued. But try as much as you can.
Will Spotify survive this crisis?
Spitify may not. Spotify may. In all seriousness, no one can guarantee anything. Internally, things look pretty healthy. No one seems panicked in the internal slack channels. Many new features are being talked about. Many recent acquisitions as well.
Yes if crisis is only for year or two. No if crisis continues farther. It’s a loss making company and difficult to sustain long term without good stock market(investors ready to pump money)
Why Spotify never had a profitable year?
We have been focusing on growth and we have our reasons. It's not difficult to be profitable (cut costs + growth, increase prices). It's just that it will come at the cost of growth.
Stock went from 315 to 99 in this year. With 0 profits what’s the guarantee that it will not go to 10$ ? Also “It's not difficult to be profitable” : I thought that’s one of most important thing for a listed company unless you are a new company.
I never moved ahead of the recruiter call, how specific are the minimum qualifications- do I need to qualify for all of them?

Do you get premium for free?
Yes. Plus new features that aren't released yet. We don't get the family plan though.
