Spotify SRE culture

Looking for insight on the Spotify SRE culture. What is work distribution layout? Are you embedded with a developer organization or is it glorified ops or devops? What are some of the systems you’re working in?

the role isn’t really any different than “backend engineer”, you’re typically on a team of other engineers and you’ll all share oncall the same

Awesome thanks for the context. Does SRE roll up into their own org structure then? Does SRE have more focus on automation and resiliency over the core swe partners ? If I write tools in Java , Python and Go as an SRE currently, does that align with languages used within Spotify? Or should I learn something else before interviewing (c++ or ruby) ? Lots of question here, but every company seems to do “sre” differently, from this thread it sounds like Spotify has a solid approach, and not just an ops monkey

SREs are expected to write backend code too and backend engineers (& FullStack/Frontend engineers) are expected to learn about SRE tasks, and vice versa. Role doesn’t matter much as ultimately you’ll be doing the same thing. In a way it’s a good thing, as you can learn about things you have not worked on before, the problem comes when this is considered in your performance review.
