Which one is better in terms of culture and wlb. Seems like Hulu is willing to pay more and is in LA vs Spotify in NYC. Tc: 170k Yoe: 2
Hulu, you’ll love LA.
Depends what team at Hulu . Hulu is not innovating at all and is becoming very structured . Ask Hulu what new things they doing
We are in the midst of integrating with Disney, and above all, in the middle of a pandemic. But what you said initially is correct. Culture and wlb is team specific. But in general, compared to other FANG companies, Hulu's culture and wlb is one of the industry best
What new things is Hulu innovating on nothing .. if u compare it to Netflix .. Hulu is not taking a chance on much .. maybe pause ads .. buts it’s not ground breaking. Hulu whilst own by Disney will never take a chance on trying to break new grounds I agree culture is good in web team and content .. stay clear of ads area
I personally think Spotify is a really great company that treats its employees very well, with lots of innovation and really cool things to work on. It heavily depends on team so different people will have different experiences. I like the European work culture influences.
Hello. I have an interview for a program manager role? Do you happen to have any info about what comp is like for this role? Also does Spotify offer sign on bonus or relocation assistance for new hires?
Hulu can easily beat offers from Spotify. And we are working on some cool stuff too, which you can ask your hiring manager during the interview (I'm not sure revealing here would be good.) Also, with Disney the future looks bright. Of course there is some internal politics which occurs everytime a company is acquired by another big corporation. But from the perspective of IC's, you'll get to work on new and latest technologies, while earning FANG level salary. PS: you can date a lot of hot girls in LA ;)
Lol hot fake girls, wallet lovers.
@gym like with all big cities it depends entirely on who you run with. All of my friends are married now and all have wonderful down to earth beautiful wives. Not exaggerating.
you might want to look more at the reputation of Disney, which I think is generally negative for tech employees and considered to compensate low (but so is Spotify compared to fang) with any acquisition or merger it’s inevitable that you’ll be swallowed up into the corporate culture eventually
You might want to add that whatever you said are speculations.
I thought it was obvious that my prediction about the future after an acquisition was speculative 🤣
Depending on the team and your personal interests I would recommend AGAINST Hulu. Very unclear direction from leadership, culture is getting worse under Disney, Benefits slowly getting chipped away. Working at Hulu will essentially equal working at Disney. Disney doesn’t have a ton I’d love for Hulu in terms of long term Oman’s is trying to force a lot of scammy features that will further dilute Hulu’s brand and make it difficult to compete among other streaming services. I would also consider environment strongly as there is a huge difference between NY and LA. Personally I would try to get a better offer at Spotify and if not I would look for a better company than Hulu.
How independent are disney streaming and Hulu teams ? Any idea about culture at disney streaming ?
Disney streaming is very different from Hulu from what a I hear. I don’t hear good things about culture there (corporate, similar to Disney) and combo is below Hulu.
Spotify is a startup trying to act like a big company. Lots of meeting to try to fix the systemic issue of a complete lack of direction or coordination from the VPs or directors. Lots of shitty middle managers. Make sure you get a good team. Spotify doesn’t PIP, they hire and fire
Is the firing culture bad at Spotify? I thought they had a good culture and wlb?
I did too, but depends on the team and department. There is literally no coordination on anything, it’s all up to the department head. That includes TC ranges and expectations Don’t get stuck in matrix management on a team without a PM and more projects than people
