Do you involve stakeholders/business partners in sprint planning?
Per Agile, I believe they can be in Sprint Review sessions. In the real world they sometimes like to be in Sprint planning discussions😒. Sometimes it's helpful, most times they end up confusing the team.
Re: retro/review… Depends on your flavor. SAFe says dev team only in retrospectives to allow for a free discussion. As for planning, there should be a PO/PM who knows the priorities and details so the others shouldn’t have to be there.
Sprint Review & Retro != Sprint Planning.
Ideally, you need someone with decision-making power like a PO / product manager who clearly defines the priority of items that are expected to be done in the following sprint. If while planning the team feels it's too much some items should be removed. This single person should be able to take a call and agree. You never invite all the stakeholders in planning. it will be a circus. stakeholders are only welcome in the sprint review/demo where they provide feedback which duly lands in the backlog and PO / PM prioritizes again. No one can force the team to deliver a baby in 1 month! not even the PO. only the team knows its capacity and only the team will agree to what they will pick up in the sprint. If anyone is forcing then PIP that damned person, if you cant start asking for referrals and move on lol. PM = product manager not the project manager or scrum master

That's how agile is supposed to be. How are they going to know you're doing what they want if you hide from them while planning?
It’s not about hiding. It’s about efficiency and responsibility. Product is central in the best orgs for a reason and product is supposed to know and define the long term goals. When others are there, it means they get to influence the sprint. Everyone should know what product is doing, and be able to see it. Product also gets to (have to) say no to most stakeholders. Bringing others in man’s product is avoiding that core responsibility.

Yes, the team lays out what we plan to do for the sprint, and the PM is there to be basically agree with what we’re doing or suggest other tasks to completed in the sprint rather than waiting for a future sprint.
That’s not involving stakeholders which was the Q.
Is the product manager, not considered a stakeholder? I could understand the confusion if you thought I meant project manager, which I can understand, but people here seem to use PM to mean product manager…

They should never be a part of those. If you have PMs, that’s their job. Bringing stakeholders in these meetings to me is a way of passing on the responsibility from business outcomes standpoint. PMs should have a visceral understanding of what’s needed and if they don’t, they’re useless.
Do you have a product owner who can make decisions?
Yes, we have PM’s and they make the decisions.
Then unless the team really wants them there, someone—perhaps the SM?—should coach them appropriately(bye)
