Pretty much what the title says. I had interviewed for a job at Square, which the first part went pretty well or so I thought. The recruiter then advised that we were now waiting for the hiring manager to return from a retreat, and that she would follow up with me as soon as they return. About 4 days later, I received an email that they decided to move forward with another candidate, and then saw the same job listing posted again a few days after. Not sure what to do here, should I reapply or call it a loss and continue moving forward? I've been tempted to contact the recruiter via LinkedIn, but not sure if that would break protocol somehow. It seemed pretty quick and was hoping for some info as to what had happened. #operations #interview #ops #square #customerservice

Apply to other position
I mean what do I have to lose, right?
Yes I mean worst you get rejection email
No, don't reapply for a job that you were just rejected for. I think this would show a lack of self-awareness. Also, don't reach out to the recruiter. They communicated the decision to you, that's all for now.
Don't understand the Square obsession. As if it's like the next Google or something. Their pay actually isn't stellar. Sign-on bonus is lower than finance companies (10-15k). Their stock is at all time low, so heard employee motivation is pretty bad right now. Point is, there is plenty of fish in the pond. Everyone is doing something interesting. Every company has their good days, and bad days. Don't be too obsessed due to getting rejected by one of the companies just because their interview process is "pair programming" but it's just glorified Leetcode under the hood. You'll get something better, the interview processes have made you better prepared. As for reapply - do that after a year. They'll definitely give you a callback.
agree
I'm still kinda mad I didn't get in a while back. Thought the interview went great, solved all their coding questions while pair programming. Share price was like $15 back then. ugh. oh well.
Imagine if a girl you didn't like REALLY wanted to go out with you. One day, you tell her "no, I don't want to go out with you." If she comes back the next day, would you change your mind? She REALLY wants you, OP. She LOVES you.
Haha holy shit, this really drove it home for me.
If the issue is that you feel hurt by the rejection, I would suggest something that will not necessarily be easy: keep interviewing at other companies until your get an offer. Practicing will be useful and the process will end on a better feeling for you. You can only control your own actions, not how other people will react to them. Interviews are not a perfect tool. Interviewers get the wrong impression of candidates all the time. Companies advertise for jobs that don't exist. Recruitment is broken in many industries. People are overworked and under-trained everywhere.
