Square L5 Offer Senior Data Analyst
Posting for a friend who has a read-only account. Square offer: $157k base + $140k (over 4 years) stock + $10k sign on bonus She has another offer from TikTok. Leveling is 2-2 Senior Data Scientist. Base $200k + ~$100k RSUs (over 4 years) + 12.5% per year bonus + $18k sign on bonus She also has start up offers with lower TC but they all have a higher base salary than Square. Attempting to get L6 leveling for Square. Will they match TikTok offer or get close? YOE: 7
What is her current role, level and YoE?
YOE is 7. Senior/lead data analyst, have been on a career break most of this year.
Not sure L6 is possible with 7 YOE, unless interview performance was really great and other factors in play. Square is not known for top tier pay, but WLB is better than TikTok. She should take Square irrespective of whether she can level up and not worry much about TC difference IMHO.
Why she even thinking? TikTok allll the way
Because tiktok is notoriously known for horrible WLB and the gap in TC between block and tiktok is not huge

I’ve heard from multiple people that the WLB is horrible at tiktok. My two cents: go with square and still have a life outside of work

L6 square would be like within 5% of tiktok. L5 has no chance. L6 is definitely possible with 7 YOE so if I were your friend id say something like “hey I loved the team and square but I have a huge gap between square and my other offer. Is there any way I can do a leadership interview for L6 consideration”. Id join square regardless unless your friend wants to grind 2x the hours for that pay difference. Plus way more upside to $sq than TikTok/bytedance
