Square L5 vs Spotify Eng 2?

I prioritize WLB first, TC second. What should I choose if I just want a chill life and don't care about quick growth/promotions? I do want to grow and do some good work, but at a chill pace so I can work to live, not live to work. Square obviously pays a lot more but I feel like the wlb at spotify is better and idk if the difference in TC is worth a worse WLB. I also get chiller vibes from Spotify, but the vibe I get from Square is typical corporate culture where you have to get promoted by a certain time or you get kicked out. Not to mention coming in at a lower level at Spotify means an even easier time chilling since the expectations will be lower. Any thoughts?

Square stonk price is pretty appealing right now though. Spotify has a lot of competition ahead with Apple Music no?

Spotify would let me get the equity as cash instead which is really appealing. Also I heard square has competition from apple pay and ipad integration for contactless payments lol

Square is pretty chill too, there’s no feeling that you’ll be fired if you’re not promoted within a certain time at all

Can't find it right now, but I saw a career/position performance/expectations kind of document that said employees are expected to progress at roughly the stated timeline (L5 by X years of experience, L6 by Y yoe etc). Have you heard of this? Not saying I never want to get promoted but having time pressure would suck

Found it: Every engineer should eventually reach at least L6 at a pace roughly inline with experience guidelines.

Thanks, do you have any reasons for why square WLB is better than spotify?

We're pretty well known for our WLB here. Most people I know work 40 hours (or less) a week and do just fine. Also, we absolutely do not do "up or out" promotions. There's a soft expectation that new grads hired at L3 will get to L4 within a year, and that L4 hires will get to L5 within a few years, but if you're joining at L5, there's zero pressure for you to get to L6 within any timeframe if you don't want to.
