I have got an onsite call from square and wanted to understand what can I expect in application architecture, system design and coding questions? YoE: 4 Position applying for: Senior Software Engineer #square #onsite #virtualonsite #seniorsoftwareengineer
I also had a very negative experience at Square interview. No bathroom breaks. Rushed between lunch and different rounds. Interviewers get annoyed because the previous interviewer didn’t finish it on time etc. also get ready for 15 different people to interview you. Each takes 45-50mins. And for what junior or mid-level software engineering position? Pleaseeee… Now I got more experience and I won’t even try for senior level at Square and honestly I don’t even wanna hear about Square at any point of my life. Any country’s president probably has lower bars to jump through to get elected. Expect unorganized interviewers. And be on the lookout for somewhere else to work at meanwhile.
Could you please provide some insight on the questions asked?
I dont remember every single one of interviewers and what they asked but They started with a coding question in front of a computer. It was something like “how would you design a pagination plugin for backend/frontend, go through all of the aspects and then put it in code” then I remember the whiteboard part two guys sat in front of me. Kept asking “let’s say you have this application, where would you put it, how would you set it up, which database you’d use, how would you set up database tables, how would you use load balancer for app servers” . The coding in front of the computer part repeated like 5-6 times. And whiteboard also repeated two three times. I was so tired 6 hours into the interview as they barely gave any breaks. So, I don’t remember every single detail as I was super super tired. That’s probably how their WLB is. Also I was asking clarifying questions on the needs of the “application” that will be used etc. they were like “oh how many people you want this app to handle” I was so frustrated and was thinking “I don’t know you are working at square, you tell me from your existing stats from the marketing team so that I can design it accordingly” after 6-7 hours on their on-site.
Had a very negative experience in the system design round, the interviewer seemed very arrogant and not interested. Wasn’t paying attention to what I saying and kept interrupting to ask questions and wouldn’t let me justify my approach. He would interrupt me again and ask me something new Needless to say, I got rejected
Could you give some info on question asked?
Typically you’ll get the hotel booking question.
