Hello folks, I have a system design interview for a Staff/Principal position at Square, and I was wondering what kind of system design interview it will be. Any tips on how to prepare for it? Do they want to see how you think and arrive at solutions from first principles, or do they want to see specific tooling and solutions, e.g., AWS services? The recruiter said that performance in this interview is key to deciding between Staff and Principal levels. TC: $200K YOE: 15 #square #cashapp #interview #onsite #systemdesign
It hurts to see it. You have been at shop as a staff and you only make $200k 🤦wtf is wrong with our firm.
Probably OP is a senior eng. Staff level is easily ~$300k
Hotel reservations system / stock trading system DDIA for prep, go through how to do Idempotency and make sure you have a general knowhows about what technologies to use and why. Be able to justify your answer. Grokking the system design interview advanced is a good course for prep
Thank you.
One interview is almost always "design a hotel reservation system". Your recruiter should share this prompt with you in advance and it's been discussed to death online. The other is quite open. If you're willing to pay a bit, there are some Square EMs on Prepfully who might be able to give more insight, they do paid interview coaching.
Thank you.
Be prepare to get stuck in team matching. I know a ton of people of been waiting for a few months now.
Out of curiosity, is that for an opening in Europe?
How did your interview go? Looking for any feedback/advice you might be able to give
