Sr DevOps Engineer @Capital One (FAANG to C1)

Hey what is the TC for Sr DevOps Engineer at C1? Is it worth it to move from FAANG to C1? For those who did it how was it THIS IS NOT FOR ENTRY LEVEL Avg TC/yr if I decide to stay for 4yrs: 116K (as of todays stock price). YOE: 3.5

I have seen no such moves but some in the opposite direction. Which location are you interested in? And your yoe? TC mostly depends on them.

no.

I did a move in the opposite direction. I interned at capital one a few years ago. Amazing place to work and was happier there than I was at FAANG, unicorn startups, or mid sized bay are tech companies. Compensation and engineering talent is considerably lower, but they put their employees happiness first, and that’s important.

Don’t do it. It will kill your career.

Capital One is AMAZING the first couple years I've heard (TDP program). However, after, it's not that career uplifting. You'll learn a lot about the latest tools and technologies, but talent will not be as strong as FAANG. If you want to move from C1 to FAANG, just be aware of a TC drop.

Amazon DynamoDB Dec 18, 2018

Sorry, I meant from FAANG to C1*

Capital One desu Dec 7, 2018

DO NOT MOVE FROM FAANG TO C1. You are getting shafted if you take a Sr. Associate position because the title inflation is severe. Ask for Principal Associate at minimum, if at all, which I do not recommend.

Capital One EXwk33 Dec 7, 2018

In general you should ignore desu's advice. He is right that comp for junior people is better at FAANG, but FAANG working conditions are way worse. Desu performed poorly here and I suspect the same issue will happen at Amazon

Capital One Boz Dec 7, 2018

You've clearly not worked at FANG before. Amazon is the only one with worse working condition, all the others have better ones

Capital One EXwk33 Dec 19, 2018

Google has good working conditions. Amazon has terrible conditions and the rest of faang is pretty mediocre

Capital One iNGbIRAL Dec 7, 2018

Like most financial institutions, the titles tend to be inflated compared to that of tech companies. If you're being interviewed for a Senior Associate position in tech, the middle is the pay band is around 110k to 115k. For a Principle Associate, it's 125k to 135k. Plus performance-based bonus. Don't expect RSUs.

Amazon DEPk35 Dec 7, 2018

No. As Ex C1, everyone that is talented leaves. C1 is old mans club with a hip, LGTB coat of employer branding.

I'd say there's a good argument to do it if you're ready to go lifestyle. If you want to prioritize career growth you should pass.
