Grateful to have multiple offers in this market. What do you think? Microsoft: remote Snap: 4d/w onsite is cool with me. Projects seem fun, but stock is volatile and the latest reviews are scary Nvidia: seems chill and remote (is it a good offer from them?) YOE 7 TC: 235k -> 0 — EDIT There’s more detail about my prep and how I landed these offers in the comments. The ratio of snap employees telling me to stay away vs joining is wild. It is the complete opposite for Nvidians. I decided to not join msft (salesman recruiter, tc, level) nor snap (recent reviews, comments here, wlb, onsite 4d/w, share dilution). I’ll become an Nvidian soon, thanks all!
Do not come to snap. It will destroy you
:/ that’s what I thought, thanks. And yeah project seemed interesting, but I might prioritize my mental health.
Projects change and get shut down all the time, so keep that in mind if that's incentivizing you to come to Snap. And the health benefits, including mental health, are good, but in retrospect, that's probably because they realized people would need them. The funny thing is, now they're claiming they want the company to address the loneliness epidemic in the U.S. that the Surgeon General has discussed, which (according to some studies) is as bad for your health as smoking almost a pack of cigarettes a day. But I don't see anything that we could and would do that could help with that for people in general. And making people spend more time in the office with people they're paid to be around, instead of having a functional social life with real friends and family, doesn't seem like a step in the right direction. (I legitimately feel sorry for all the people who like the RTO trend because it's the only way they can get people to be around them short of abducting someone, tbh.)
Remote in CA or remote anywhere in the US? Either way, Nvidia is a good bet
Technically anywhere in US, but I’m living in CA.
Nice. I don't know if this is still true, but I heard that the pay decrease at NVIDIA based on relocating to somewhere with a lower cost-of-living is capped relatively low (IIRC around 20% or so). If so, and you're flexible about your location, you could consider moving somewhere with cheaper housing, lower taxes, etc. You might come out ahead in the long run. Even better if your offer isn't tied to your current location.
What’s the Nvidia role level and location ? Congrats on the offers
From the offer, I guess IC4. I’m at 7 yoe Location is remote and thanks!
Is it remote California?
I would take Nvidia over Snap. I agree, Snap is scary. I spoke to them about coming on to lead a team and when I was talking to the manager, they basically said that - WLB was rough at the moment - BECAUSE leadership was trying like hell to figure out features to implement to compete with esp. Tik Tok. Rough WLB, I've had that. Leadership thrashing because they don't have a coherent strategy? That's a bigger problem. That's in contrast to Nvidia whose leadership has been pretty impressive in regard to pre-empting the AI upswing with processor capabilities, has upside (I think) in their stock, and has less risk associated with privacy regulations. I suspect Nvidia offers more opportunities for learning, as well
That’s what I heard from their mgr. “a lot of work” is ahead. Sounded like very bad wlb.
Indeed, and it's getting worse. Management is basically complaining that they don't see very many people here at 7-8 PM. While others who sit near their offices and *are* here that late say they don't come in that often, and have never seen them doing one of these evening patrols.
Msft is a joke
We had a few back and forth on the numbers 😅 everyone I chatted with was nice!
Snap is a horrible choice, and that M$ offer is downright insulting. Nvidia is the only logical choice here. Congratulations on the offers and good luck with your next role. TC: 105K
Thank you 🙏
Snap is not a horrible choice if you want to chill. L4 is not even senior, L3 is new grad, so expectations will be low
NVidia is who I voted for but keep in mind their stock has been on a tear and that is difficult to keep going. Also I suspect their stock was helped a lot by gpu mining, which is seriously down since eth went to a PoS model, and won’t be coming back. I think it’s the correct choice given the options but my opinion is the stock will be flat for a few years.
Generally agree, but coming from Snap, I can promise you that being flat is better than declining. I do feel like there's a lot of uncertainty about NVIDIA's future growth potential, mostly around how much the AI market will be worth in the long term, and the possibility someone eventually comes along and makes a better option for neural network training/inference. No doubt a lot of the generative AI startups getting funded right now will drop like flies once they can't produce anything profitable, but for now, NVIDIA's selling shovels during a gold rush. And while we're currently in the boom before the almost inevitable bust, it seems likely that their GPUs will be in the clusters used by the survivors and the bigger, established companies already using these for existing and emerging applications for quite some time in the future. But how much of the potential upside and downside based on these factors is already baked into the current stock price isn't a question I'm willing to tackle, as I don't really deal in picking individual stocks.
your senior offer TC for msft is the same as the 61 offer i got three years ago, go to nvidia
🥺 we got inflation with groceries and deflation on TC
Snap is at a discount and about to 🚀🌕. L4 is not senior so expectations aren’t high. Congrats and come join us
Rip mealcards
